IPC Leader call for 2024 re-election
The leader of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), Dr. Panduleni Itula, has declared that his party will not recognize the results of the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections. He made this announcement during an urgent press conference held this evening.
Dr. Itula’s statement follows widespread reports of logistical issues during the elections. Several polling stations reportedly ran out of ballot papers, forcing voters to endure long queues while awaiting replenishment. The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) responded by extending the voting period from its initial date of November 27 to November 30, 2024.
However, Dr. Itula alleged that these issues amounted to voter suppression and have significantly compromised the credibility of the electoral process. “The elections have been marred by irregularities, disenfranchising countless voters. We cannot accept these flawed results,” he said, calling for a re-run of the elections to ensure fairness and transparency.
The ECN is yet to respond to Dr. Itula’s demands, while observers and political analysts closely monitor the unfolding situation, which has raised concerns about potential unrest and the integrity of Namibia’s democratic processes.
