Khorixas Youth Call for Expansion of Vocational Training Amid Rising Unemployment

Youth in Khorixas have identified unemployment as a persistent challenge and are calling for the expansion of courses at the Khorixas Vocational Training Centre to improve their employment prospects.
The call came during a meeting organised by the National Youth Council (NYC), which brought together young people to discuss issues such as youth participation, leadership development, and skills acquisition.
Khorixas Constituency Councillor Eddie |Nanub acknowledged the challenges raised and announced plans to hold quarterly town hall meetings to better assess the skills and potential of the community and create development opportunities.
Councillor |Nanub emphasised the importance of youth engagement in leadership structures and decision-making processes. “I called on you to lead and run positions in this forum, not for a title but to serve. I call upon you to participate, attend meetings, criticise constructively, propose, and hold me accountable,” he said.
Norman !Nanuseb, Chairperson of the Khorixas Constituency Youth Forum, reported on the forum’s activities, noting initiatives such as community cleanup campaigns and training programmes aimed at developing young entrepreneurs, farmers, and administrators.
Despite these efforts, youth representatives highlighted that unemployment remains the town’s key challenge and urged the Vocational Training Centre to expand its course offerings to equip young people with market-relevant skills.
The NYC noted that such engagement platforms are essential for ensuring that youth concerns are considered in local decision-making and development planning.
