Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Emma Theofelus, today paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Mayeyi people, Shikati Boniface Shufu, at the Mayeyi Traditional Authority headquarters in Sangwali, Judea-Lyamboloma Constituency, Zambezi Region.


During the meeting, Theofelus announced that the Sangwali community is expected to gain access to radio frequency services within the next three to six months, following an assessment of the area’s radio service needs.

The Minister also announced that 20 community members will be selected to undergo digital literacy training in Katima Mulilo through the MICT Regional Office.


She said the training will equip residents with essential digital skills and improve their access to information and digital services.

The initiatives are expected to contribute to greater connectivity and digital inclusion, while ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in Namibia’s digital transformation and access to information.


The visit forms part of efforts by MICT to engage traditional authorities and communities on issues relating to connectivity, digital inclusion and access to information.
