Nkurenkuru, in the Kavango West Region, is set to receive its own Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) station early in the 2026/2027 financial year, a move aimed at enhancing news coverage and service delivery in the region.

The announcement was made by NBC’s Head of News and Current Affairs, Peter Denk, during a recent Regional High-Level Stakeholders Engagement hosted by Minister of ICT, Emma Theofelus. Currently, NBC covers Kavango West from its Rundu station in Kavango East, a setup that forces news teams to travel long distances to provide comprehensive coverage.

Denk emphasized that the current arrangement is unsustainable, and the new Nkurenkuru station will not only reduce the travel burden on reporters but also ensure more timely and accurate news reporting for communities in Kavango West.

The stakeholders’ engagement provided a platform to discuss the Ministry of ICT’s mandate, ongoing projects, and efforts to upgrade radio and mobile networks in the region. The NBC expansion aligns with broader initiatives to improve communication infrastructure and access to information for residents of Kavango West.
