Ngurare Urges Junior Council Members to Shape Namibia’s Future
Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare has urged members of the 4th Junior National Council (JNC) to take an active role in shaping Namibia’s future and developing solutions to challenges facing the country.
Ngurare made the remarks today while officially opening the 1st Session of the 4th JNC, which brings together 42 young representatives from all 14 regions.
The representatives, drawn from learners in Grades 8 to 11, were encouraged to use the platform to debate issues affecting young people, listen to diverse perspectives and propose practical solutions to challenges facing their communities and the country at large.
This year’s session is being held under the theme: “Towards Universal Access to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene for Every Namibian Child.”
Ngurare emphasised that access to safe water is a fundamental human right and called on the young council members to identify gaps in existing policies and contribute innovative ideas towards addressing water, sanitation and hygiene challenges.
He said young people have an important role to play in the country’s development and encouraged the JNC members to view their participation as an opportunity to influence positive change.
National Council Chairperson Hon. Lukas Sinimbo Muha highlighted the JNC’s role in giving school-going children a platform to voice their views on community, national and international issues.
He said the initiative also plays an important role in nurturing leadership skills, civic engagement and an understanding of democratic processes among young people.
Muha further acknowledged the support of the Government of the People’s Republic of China and UNICEF towards the JNC initiative.
“The future is not a distant destination that will one day be handed to you.
The future of Namibia is being shaped by the choices we make today, and you already have a place in shaping it,” Ngurare said.
He urged the young leaders to recognise their potential and use the JNC platform to contribute meaningfully to Namibia’s development.
