NYS Opens Applications for 17th National Service Intake

The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced the recruitment of its 17th intake and is inviting unemployed Namibian youth between the ages of 16 and 30 to apply for voluntary national service training scheduled to begin in September 2026.
According to the NYS, the programme is aimed at equipping young people with skills, training and opportunities that can improve their chances of employment and personal development.
The six-month training programme will be conducted at the NYS training centres in Henties Bay and Rietfontein. Upon completion, participants may be deployed to projects of national importance or enrolled in skills training programmes offered at the Rietfontein Training Centre.
The NYS noted that participation in the programme is voluntary and does not establish an employer-employee relationship between recruits and the institution.
Applicants are required to submit certified copies of their identity documents, school certificates or reports, and any other supporting documents. Candidates must also be prepared to undergo a medical examination to determine their fitness for the training programme.
The service indicated that applicants should have at least a Grade 11 qualification or Grade 12 with a minimum of 25 points in six subjects. Additional qualifications such as diplomas or degrees will be considered an advantage. Physical fitness is also among the requirements.
Application forms can be downloaded from the NYS website or obtained from the NYS Head Office in Windhoek, training centres, and regional council offices across the country.
The closing date for applications is 14 August 2026.
