The Oshakati Town Council has launched its Traffic Law Enforcement Unit, with Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi urging authorities and stakeholders to embrace technology to improve traffic control and road safety.

Nekundi officially launched the unit yesterday in Oshakati, Oshana Region, where he called for investment in modern systems to help manage traffic challenges in the growing town.

He said Namibia is moving towards the introduction of digital number plates, with the design already completed, and motorists will eventually be required to replace their current plates.

According to the minister, the new system will help authorities detect traffic violations automatically, including motorists who ignore traffic lights, with offenders facing legal action.
