President Nandi-Ndaitwah Emphasises Unity, Innovation and Cultural Preservation at Masubia Cultural Festival
President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has emphasised the importance of preserving Namibia’s rich cultural heritage while embracing innovation and transformation, saying culture should remain a source of national unity, identity and inspiration.
Delivering the keynote address at the Masubia Cultural Festival, currently underway at the Munitenge Royal Establishment in Bukalo, the President said a nation’s culture is central to its identity and should never be used to divide its people.
“As they say, a nation without culture is not a nation. Against that background, our diverse cultures must be a source of our national identity, strength and inspiration, and should not be used to divide us or to hinder our development. As a nation, our well-being and our existence lie in our unity,” she said.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah welcomed visitors from across Namibia and acknowledged the presence of traditional leaders and their delegations from the Republic of Botswana, describing their participation as a reflection of the strong neighbourly relations between the two countries.
She said the Masubia Cultural Festival celebrates the rich cultural diversity of the Masubia community through traditional dances, music, attire, food and storytelling, while promoting the transfer of indigenous knowledge across generations.
The President noted that the festival serves as an important platform for children and young people to learn about and preserve their culture, ensuring that customs, values and traditions are passed on to future generations.
She further stressed that cultural preservation must go hand in hand with national development.
“We must boost innovation and transformation while protecting our culture. Culture is important in every society across the globe,” she said.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah said cultural festivals strengthen national identity, promote unity and foster greater appreciation of Namibia’s diverse cultural heritage.
The President was accompanied by Minister in the Presidency Dr. Charles Mutumba and Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Hon. James Sankwasa, alongside other senior government officials, traditional leaders and invited guests attending the annual cultural celebration.
