President Netumbo Celebrates Pohamba’s 91st Birthday With Tribute to His Legacy
Namibia has marked the 91st birthday of former President Dr. Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba, with President Dr. Netumbo Nandi‑Ndaitwah praising him as a statesman whose life is inseparable from the nation’s liberation and democratic journey.
According to President Nandi‑Ndaitwah, Pohamba’s leadership as Namibia’s second Head of State was defined by humility, reconciliation and respect for the rule of law, achievements that earned him the 2014 Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership.
She said his example reminds younger Namibians that freedom was won through sacrifice, and today’s leaders must preserve it while advancing economic independence and reducing inequality.
On behalf of the government and people, President Netumbo wished Pohamba continued health, peace and happiness, noting that his legacy remains a guiding light for future generations.
