The Social Security Commission (SSC) is set to increase several benefits paid to workers, with the new amounts coming into effect on 1 October.

Labour and Justice Minister Fillemon Wise Immanuel announced the changes on Tuesday, saying maternity benefits will increase to a maximum of N$20,000.

Under the new benefit structure, sick leave, death, disability and retirement benefits will each be increased to N$15,000.

The changes are part of the SSC’s efforts to improve support provided to beneficiaries through its various funds.

The Commission also indicated that it is working towards introducing employment benefits, although further details on the planned benefits were not provided.
