Walvis Bay Mayor Appointed to National Water Governance Bodies

Walvis Bay Mayor Johannes Shimbilinga has been appointed by the Association for Local Authorities in Namibia (ALAN) to represent local authorities on three national water governance structures.
The appointment was noted during a Walvis Bay Municipal Council meeting, where councillors were informed that Shimbilinga will serve as an alternate member of the NamWater Board, a full member of the Management Committee of the Upper Swakopmund Basin, and a full member of the Water Advisory Council.
According to the council report, the appointments are aimed at ensuring that local authorities are represented in key national institutions responsible for water management and governance.
The report further states that the Municipal Council’s Management Committee recommended that Council take note of the appointments and acknowledge them with appreciation.
Shimbilinga’s appointment is expected to strengthen the voice of local authorities in discussions on water governance, water resource management and policy development at the national level.
