A 29-year-old woman was robbed of her belongings in broad daylight on Wednesday after boarding what appeared to be a legitimate taxi at Oshakati.

Police reports indicate that the woman entered a white Toyota Corolla, commonly known as the “Dannkie Botswana” type, believing it to be a normal taxi. Shortly after departure, the male occupants, posing as passengers turned against her and threatened her with knives as the car headed towards Othingo village, just outside the town.

The attackers took her cellphone and N$130 in cash before forcing her to unlock her phone and hand over her bank card. The victim was later dropped off at Okaku kaNangula along the Oshakati–Omungwelume road. The suspects then withdrew N$1,600 from her account.

According to police, several similar incidents have been reported in the northern regions, where unsuspecting passengers fall prey to criminals operating as fake taxi drivers and passengers. Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and verify taxi registration details before boarding.
