An unidentified person died after the vehicle they were travelling in reportedly lost control and crashed into a tree at Otuvingo Village in the Okakarara Constituency early Saturday morning.

According to Otjozondjupa Police spokesperson and Community Liaison Officer Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, the vehicle, a Nissan NP200, left the road before colliding with a tree and catching fire.

The vehicle’s registration number and colour have not yet been established.

Police believe the deceased may have been the only person inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The victim’s remains were recovered from the burnt-out vehicle and taken to the Otjiwarongo Police Mortuary. They are expected to be transferred to Windhoek for forensic examination to help establish the person’s identity.

Investigators also recovered the vehicle’s engine number, which could assist in tracing the vehicle and identifying the deceased.

Police have not yet managed to locate the victim’s next of kin.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
