Churches Operating from Residential Homes in Rundu Set to Be Closed
Several churches operating from residential homes in Rundu could face closure following concerns over excessive noise, particularly during the night, and other activities that community leaders say are disrupting residents.
Speaking on Radio Wato’s Penduka programme, Joseph Kasera said community leaders had held a meeting where the decision was taken to address churches that operate throughout the night and allegedly disturb surrounding households.
Kasera said the exact date for the planned action has not yet been determined, but indicated that it is expected to take place this month.
He said that the team will be sent to the locations to document those places.
He urged residents to come forward and report churches that are causing disturbances in their neighbourhoods.
According to Kasera, some residents have complained that the noise from certain churches prevents them from sleeping properly and has contributed to problems within households.
As part of the measures being considered, Kasera said there would also be requirements that individuals must meet before opening or operating a church in Rundu.
The move is aimed at ensuring that religious activities do not negatively affect the peace and wellbeing of surrounding communities.
