Dramatic Escape inmate Climbs to Rundu Mall Roof, Threatens to Jump off

A trial-awaiting inmate caused a tense situation in Rundu on Wednesday after escaping from police custody shortly after arriving in the town.
According to authorities, the suspect had been transferred from Kavango West and was being offloaded at the Rundu Police holding cells when he managed to flee. He reportedly ran from the station toward the nearby Kavango Gateway Mall, where the situation escalated.
Witnesses at the scene say the inmate climbed onto the roof of a building at the mall and began threatening to jump, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.
Police negotiators were swiftly deployed and are currently engaging with the suspect in an effort to de-escalate the situation. Meanwhile, officers have cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of the public and prevent further disruption.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the inmate, and the situation remains ongoing as efforts continue to bring the standoff to a safe conclusion.
