Education Ministry Adjusts School Calendar Ahead of Local Authority Elections

Schools across the country will observe special holiday dates next week as part of preparations for the Local Authority Elections. The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture has confirmed that 25 and 27 November 2025 will be treated as official school holidays to allow for smooth electoral activities scheduled for 26 November.
The directive, issued through a circular by executive director Mbumba Erastus Haitengela, follows guidance received from the Office of the Prime Minister. It replaces an earlier communication and has been distributed to regional education directors, inspectors, school principals, teachers, school boards, parents and other stakeholders.
While normal school operations will pause on the two designated days, the Ministry noted that hostels will continue running on 25 November and will stay open throughout the election period to accommodate learners who reside in school facilities.
In addition to the election-related adjustments, the Ministry outlined the revised end-of-year schedule. Learners will conclude the academic year on Friday, 5 December 2025, while teachers, hostel staff and other institutional workers will wrap up duties on Tuesday, 9 December 2025. Schools are expected to issue all learner reports by the same date.
