The family of the late Abisai Kamina Kakukuru says they are devastated after his body was discovered in the Kavango River on 5 September with several body parts missing.

Speaking during a protest against ritual killings in Nkurenkuru on Sunday, the victim’s uncle, Ezra Kakukuru, revealed that his nephew’s remains were found with his head and face ripped apart, his left hand and leg missing, and his chest cut open.

The deceased had been reported missing on 30 August after he allegedly disappeared from the hospital. His uncle said the gruesome discovery has left the family “speechless and heartbroken.”

“It’s heartbreaking since this is the second person who has gone missing in our family. In 2019, another niece went missing and was never found. Until today, no arrests have been made,” Ezra said.

He further expressed concern over the rising number of ritual killings in the town, stating that this year alone, about six people have allegedly fallen victim to such crimes in Nkurenkuru.

Residents continue to call on authorities to act decisively to curb the killings and bring perpetrators to justice.
