NamPower Pushes for 8.4% Electricity Tariff Increase

NamPower has applied for an 8.4% increase in electricity tariffs from the Electricity Control Board.
The proposal was revealed during the 2026/2027 NamPower Bulk Tariff Review and Stakeholder Consultation meeting held in Swakopmund on Thursday morning.
Members of the Consumer Liaison Committees from Swakopmund and Karibib who attended the meeting strongly opposed the proposed increase, raising concerns about the additional financial pressure it could place on consumers.
The application is currently under review by the Electricity Control Board, which regulates electricity tariffs in Namibia. The stakeholder consultation forms part of the process that allows affected communities and organisations to give input before a final decision is made.
The regulator is expected to consider the feedback from stakeholders before making a determination on whether the proposed tariff increase will be approved.
