NBC Rejects N$184 Million Claim, Maintains Huawei Debt Is Only N$3 Million

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has clarified that it owes Huawei N$3 million, firmly disputing claims that its liability stands at N$184 million as suggested by Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
The committee, however, maintains that the N$3 million has not been properly accounted for in the broadcaster’s financial records.
NBC board chairperson Lazarus Jacobs has dismissed the concerns, stating that the amount is recorded as a contingency liability in the corporation’s books. He added that the figure is too insignificant to justify an adverse audit opinion.
Jacobs also criticised the Office of the Auditor-General, accusing it of failing to present the full accounting treatment of the N$3 million to the parliamentary committee.
