One Dead, Four Injured Following Explosion at Walvis Bay Scrap Yard

A fatal explosion at a scrap salvage yard in Walvis Bay claimed the life of a 44-year-old worker and left four others injured on Friday.

According to the Namibian Police’s weekend crime report, the incident occurred at approximately 11:54 at the premises of a scrap salvage business in the coastal town.

Preliminary information indicates that the deceased was handling scrap metal when an explosion suddenly occurred. The blast resulted in his death at the scene, while four fellow workers sustained injuries.

Police confirmed that the deceased’s next of kin have been notified. The circumstances surrounding the explosion remain under investigation as authorities work to establish the cause of the incident.
