The Rundu Town Council has stepped up efforts to recover millions in unpaid municipal accounts after revealing that its debt book has reached N$650 million.

In a statement released today, the local authority announced that it has partnered with TransUnion, a registered credit bureau, to improve its credit management and debt collection systems.

Under the new arrangement, account holders with overdue municipal balances who fail to settle their debts or make payment plans may have their information submitted to the credit bureau. Such listings could have a negative impact on their credit records and future access to loans or other financial services.

Council has therefore encouraged residents and businesses with outstanding accounts to settle their balances as soon as possible or visit municipal offices to negotiate payment arrangements.

The initiative forms part of broader measures aimed at improving revenue collection and ensuring the council can continue delivering essential services to the community.
