Eliakim Taapopi Shiimi has remained in custody after his case was postponed to January 2026, following a ruling delivered by the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The matter was pushed to 27 January 2026 after the court confirmed it could not proceed with bail submissions due to a critical shortage of staff and a heavy backlog of pending cases. Magistrate Nelao Ya France stated that the strain on available personnel has affected the court’s ability to handle scheduled proceedings. Shiimi is being represented by defence lawyer Samuel Edegware of Shikongo Law Chambers.

Shiimi faces a murder allegation stemming from the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, 35-year-old Martha Aron, at Oshikuku in the Oshikoto Region on 22 September 2024.

Updated figures presented for September 2025 show that the Ondangwa court registered 5 943 cases, with the C Court alone handling 1 851, highlighting the growing pressure on the judicial system.
