Taxi Driver Shoots Passenger After Reported Assault In Windhoek.

A man was shot and killed in Okahandja Park, Windhoek, on Saturday evening after a taxi trip took a violent turn.

The victim, identified as Innocent Shawn, died after being taken to Katutura State Hospital. The incident happened at about 19:30 on Ongava Street.

According to the police, a 50-year-old taxi driver had picked up a customer in town and was supposed to drop him off in Okuryangava. However, the driver allegedly changed route and drove to Okahandja Park. Police say that once they arrived, a group of more than five men including the customer attacked the taxi driver.

During the assault, the group reportedly smashed the taxi’s right front window and beat the driver. In response, the driver drew his pistol and fired, fatally wounding Shawn.

The police say investigations are still underway, and no further details have been released.
