Windhoek Councillors Apologise to City CEO Over Unverified Claims

Three City of Windhoek councillors have apologised to City CEO Moses Matyayi after admitting that allegations they made about him were based on information that had not been properly verified.

Jesaya Ikali, Werner Tjihuiko and Ndeshifela Larandja had claimed that Matyayi travelled to Colombia, stayed outside Namibia for more than two weeks and that N$300,000 was spent on a Harvard University trip.

The councillors acknowledged that the claims, which were also shared with the media, were incorrect. They committed to stop making or circulating unverified or defamatory statements about Matyayi.

They also expressed regret for any reputational damage or distress caused to Matyayi, his office and the City Council.
