Argentina’s national team has confirmed two international friendly matches scheduled for late March as part of preparations for upcoming competitions, with the world champions set to face African opposition during the FIFA international window.

Argentina will reportedly play against Mauritania on 27 March, followed by another friendly against Zambia on 31 March, as the team continues to fine-tune its squad and maintain match fitness ahead of the next phase of international tournaments.

The friendly fixtures come after the cancellation of the planned Finalissima match between Argentina and Spain, which was expected to take place in the Middle East. The game, which would have brought together the winners of the Copa América and the UEFA European Championship, was called off due to the ongoing conflict situation in parts of the Middle East that affected planning, logistics, and security arrangements for the event.

Following the cancellation of the Finalissima, the Argentine Football Association arranged alternative matches to ensure the team still plays during the international break, leading to the confirmation of friendlies against African sides.

The upcoming matches will also mark another return to facing African teams. The last time Argentina played on African soil was in 2025, when they faced Angola in Luanda in an international friendly that attracted large crowds and strong support from local fans.

Coaching staff are expected to use the two matches to test new players, work on tactical adjustments, and strengthen squad depth as the reigning world champions continue preparations for future qualifiers and international tournaments.

For Mauritania and Zambia, the fixtures offer a valuable opportunity to compete against one of the strongest teams in world football. Analysts say such matches help developing national teams gain experience at the highest level while increasing their exposure on the global stage.

The friendlies are expected to draw strong interest from football fans, as African teams continue to get more opportunities to face elite nations in international competition.
