CAS Sets October 8 Hearing for Senegal’s AFCON Final Appeal Against CAF Decision
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has scheduled October 8, 2026, as the date to hear the Senegalese Football Federation’s appeal against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the controversial outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. The hearing will take place behind closed doors before a panel of arbitrators delivers its final ruling.
Senegal is seeking to overturn CAF’s Appeal Board decision, which declared the team to have forfeited the AFCON final against Morocco and officially recorded the result as a 3-0 victory in favour of the hosts. The federation is asking CAS to annul that decision and restore Senegal as the rightful African champions.
The dispute stems from the dramatic final played in Rabat, where Senegal originally defeated Morocco 1-0 after extra time. However, CAF later ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match after players temporarily walked off the pitch in protest following a late penalty awarded to Morocco, despite eventually returning to complete the game.
