Germany players to personally pay for fan’s transport

Amid a sharp rise in transport costs in New York ahead of the tournament, players from Germany’s national team have stepped forward to support their travelling supporters by personally funding transportation for around 600 fans attending their final group-stage match against Ecuador.

The initiative comes after train fares from Manhattan to New York City (Manhattan) to MetLife Stadium, the match venue spiked dramatically, rising from under $13 to more than $150. Although prices were later reduced to approximately $98 following public criticism, the cost remains a significant burden for fans.

The price surge reflects broader transport inflation affecting several host cities during the FIFA World Cup 2026, raising concerns over accessibility for travelling supporters.

Meanwhile, Germany are set to begin their campaign against Curaçao on Sunday, 14 June 2026, as they open their group-stage fixtures in the tournament.
