Iran and New Zealand shared the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw after an entertaining World Cup encounter that saw both sides exchange goals and momentum throughout the match.

Iran gradually settled into the contest and found an equaliser in the 32nd minute through experienced defender Ramin Rezaian, who brought the hosts level before halftime.

The Iranians made their first change at the break, introducing Mehdi Ghaedi, but it was New Zealand who struck again shortly after the restart. Elijah Just grabbed his second goal of the match in the 54th minute, once again benefiting from the creativity of Wood, to restore New Zealand’s advantage at 2-1.

Iran responded quickly and refused to let the match slip away. Just ten minutes later, Mohammad Mohebi found the back of the net after being set up by Rezaian, who capped an impressive performance with a goal and an assist as Iran levelled the score at 2-2.

Both coaches turned to their benches in search of a winner, with New Zealand introducing Ben Old, Ryan Thomas, Callan Elliot, Jesse Randall and Tyler Bindon, while Iran brought on Ehsan Hajsafi, Amirhossein Hosseinzadeh and Ali Alipour among several substitutions.

Despite late pressure from both sides, neither team could find a decisive breakthrough in the closing stages. Iran’s Ehsan Hajsafi was booked in the 89th minute as tensions rose, but the score remained unchanged through stoppage time.

The result leaves both teams with a point from a highly competitive contest, with New Zealand encouraged by Elijah Just’s brace and Iran taking confidence from their resilience after coming from behind twice to secure the draw.
