Lionel Messi endured another frustrating night from the penalty spot as Inter Miami were beaten 4-1 by Nashville SC on Saturday, extending their losing run to three consecutive matches.

Messi had a chance to change the course of the game in the 23rd minute, but Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake saved his spot kick. The Argentine later assisted Inter Miami’s only goal, but the visitors could not prevent Nashville from taking control in the second half.

The miss marked Messi’s third consecutive penalty failure. His previous two came while representing Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he became the first player to miss two penalties in the same World Cup, excluding shootouts.
