Mighty Gunners FC staged an impressive comeback to defeat Unam FC 2–1 at Independence Stadium, clinching the Standard Bank Top 8 Cup in style.

Unam FC made a strong start and took an early lead in the 7th minute after being awarded a penalty, which was calmly converted by Shaun Rugam. However, Mighty Gunners responded with determination, and Mutani Kariseb level the scorelines in the 22nd minute with a well-taken free kick.

The match remained tightly contested for much of the second half, but it was Moses Indji who proved to be the hero, rising highest to head home the winning goal in the 80th minute and seal the victory for the Otjiwarongo-based side.

The triumph caps off an impressive period for Mighty Gunners, who also secured a third-place finish in the league this season. Their attention now turns to the NFA Cup as they aim to add more silverware to their campaign.

Speaking after the match, the Mighty Gunners coach expressed gratitude to the club’s supporters who traveled from Otjiwarongo and other areas to cheer the team on. Meanwhile, the Unam FC coach acknowledged the defeat and confirmed that his side has already shifted focus to the upcoming NFA Cup.

As champions, Mighty Gunners FC walk away with a lucrative N$600,000 prize, while runnerup Unam FC will get N$300,000 sponsored by Standard Bank.

The Goalkeeper of the Tournament award went to Shetukana of Mighty Gunners FC, who also received a prize of N$10,000 for his outstanding performances throughout the competition.

The Top Goalscorer award was claimed by Shuan Rugam of Unam FC, who also walked away with N$10,000 after an impressive goal-scoring campaign in the tournament.
