Saibari Goal Gives Morocco Vital Victory Over Scotland
Morocco boosted their hopes of reaching the FIFA World Cup round of 32 after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Scotland in their Group C encounter on Friday.
Midfielder Ismael Saibari scored the decisive goal just 71 seconds into the match, netting the fastest goal of the tournament so far. The early strike proved enough for the Atlas Lions, who controlled much of the contest and held off Scotland’s late pressure.
The North Africans produced an impressive display, dominating possession and setting a new record for passes completed by an African team in a World Cup match. Scotland improved after the break but failed to find an equaliser despite several dangerous moments.
The victory moves Morocco onto four points from two matches, following their opening 1-1 draw with Brazil, and leaves them well placed to qualify for the knockout stage. Scotland remain on three points ahead of a decisive final group game against Brazil.
Morocco will conclude their Group C campaign against Haiti, knowing a positive result could secure a place in the round of 32.
Saibari has now scored in both of Morocco’s World Cup matches, emerging as one of the team’s standout performers in the tournament.
