Kavango West Governor Calls on Business to Support Sport in the Region

During the State of the Region Address in Kavango West, Governor Verna Sinimbo called on the business community to support sporting activities and athletes across the region, saying such support is key to inspiring young people to realise their talent.
The Governor stressed the need for stronger private sector involvement in sport, adding that investment in local athletes is essential for talent development and youth empowerment.
She also confirmed that the Nkurenkuru Sports Complex Stadium remains a priority project for development, aimed at improving sporting infrastructure in the region.
“We want to see Nkurenkuru Sports Complex Stadium completed,” she said.
Kavango West continues to produce athletes who represent Namibia at national and international level, particularly in football and athletics.
Kangumbe Gelson has represented Namibia at Under-17 level in a tournament held in Germany.
In athletics, Kanyanga Maria competed for Namibia at the SACA Under-18 and Under-20 Championships in Mauritius, where she secured two gold medals.
She also recognised Utokero Athletic Club for its participation at the Bank Windhoek Junior and Senior Athletics Championships, where the club collected seven medals, including six silver medals.
On the domestic football scene, KK United FC made history by winning the North East First Division League and becoming the first club from Kavango West to earn promotion to the Namibia Premier Football League.
“The government remains committed to supporting both talent development and identification across the region.” She said
She further announced that two sports facilities will be constructed in Haisisira and Ncamagoro at a cost of N$10 million each.
