NSC And NNOC Formalise Partnership For Namibia Annual Sport Awards

The Namibia Annual Sport Awards (NASA) 2026 will be guided by a new formal cooperation framework after the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) and the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) signed an agreement aimed at strengthening the governance and credibility of the national awards.
The agreement was signed in Windhoek at the NSC offices by NSC Chief Administrator Dr Simataa Mwiya and NNOC Chief Executive Officer Anri Parker.
The partnership sets out the responsibilities of both organisations in organising and administering the awards. It also provides a structure for cooperation while recognising the NSC’s legal mandate under the Namibia Sports Act, Act No. 12 of 2003, and the NNOC’s autonomy under the Olympic Charter.
Among the key areas covered by the agreement is the inclusion of Olympic representation on the NASA Adjudication Committee. The NNOC will also provide technical assistance in verifying athletes’ international participation records, while both organisations will work together on media and communication matters.
The agreement further establishes a dispute-resolution process designed to ensure that disagreements are handled in accordance with Namibian law while also respecting the principles and governance requirements of the Olympic Movement.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Dr Mwiya said the agreement represents a common commitment to strengthening national sports recognition.
“This Cooperative Agreement strengthens the credibility, transparency, and prestige of our national sports recognition framework. It ensures that the Olympic voice is structurally embedded in the governance of the Awards,” Mwiya said.
Parker also welcomed the partnership, saying the cooperation would contribute to fair and meaningful recognition of achievements by athletes and officials involved in Olympic and multi-sport competitions.
The 2026 NASA programme will reach two important milestones this month and next month. The finalists are scheduled to be announced on 14 October 2026, with the main awards ceremony set for 14 November 2026.
The NSC and NNOC have encouraged national sport federations, athletes, coaches and other stakeholders to take part in the nomination and selection processes in accordance with the NASA Framework.
