A directive from the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) has resulted in the resignation of Outjo councillor Laurence Kandundu from the executive committee of the Namibia Football Association (NFA).

The resignation follows concerns regarding compliance with the Namibia Sports Act, specifically provisions governing eligibility to serve on the executive bodies of national sports federations.

Speaking yesterday, NSC spokesperson Givean Simulandela clarified that the matter was not related to an individual holding two positions at the same time. Instead, he explained that the issue centered on adherence to Section 25 of the Sports Act, which prohibits local authority councillors from serving on the executive committee of a sports federation.

Kandundu’s departure comes as the Sports Commission continues to enforce governance standards and ensure that sports organisations operate within the framework of the country’s legislation.

The development highlights the importance of compliance with the Sports Act and reinforces the commission’s commitment to maintaining good governance within Namibian sport.
