Shalulile begins new chapter with Tanzanian giants Yanga
Namibian international Peter Shalulile has completed a move to Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC (Yanga) on a free transfer, bringing an end to his successful six year spell with Mamelodi Sundowns and opening a new chapter in his career.
The 32 year old striker joins Yanga after Sundowns opted not to renew his contract at the end of June. He leaves the South African club as one of its most decorated forwards, having scored 136 goals in all competitions while helping the club win multiple league titles, the CAF Champions League and the African Football League.
Shalulile’s move also reunites him with Yanga head coach Manqoba Mngqithi, who previously worked with the Namibian striker at Sundowns. Reports indicate that their successful working relationship played a key role in convincing Shalulile to continue his career in Tanzania despite interest from several other clubs.
Yanga have strengthened their squad with the experienced striker as they prepare to defend their domestic title and compete in the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign. Club officials described his arrival as one of the biggest signings of the transfer window.
For Namibia, the transfer marks another milestone for one of the country’s most accomplished footballers, who is expected to bring experience, leadership and goals to one of East Africa’s biggest clubs.
