Shimooshili, NFA president Eyes COSAFA Executive Role
The leadership of regional football in Southern Africa is set to take centre stage this weekend as the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) prepares to hold its Elective Annual General Meeting in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Among the officials expected to participate is Namibia Football Association (NFA) President Robert Shimooshili, who will contest for a position on the COSAFA Executive Committee during the meeting scheduled for Sunday, 17 May 2026.
According to confirmations from the COSAFA Electoral Committee, all nominated candidates successfully passed the required eligibility and integrity assessments conducted by the organisation’s Governance and Compliance Committee, clearing the way for the elections to proceed.
Shimooshili joins four other candidates in the race for four available Executive Committee seats. The election will be decided through a secret ballot overseen by the COSAFA Electoral Committee in line with the organisation’s electoral regulations.
The candidates contesting for the Executive Committee positions are:
- Lijane Nthunya (Lesotho)
- Nqobile Magwizi (Zimbabwe)
- Robert Shimooshili (Namibia)
- Linda Zwane (South Africa)
- Peter Simelane (Eswatini)
Several senior COSAFA positions will be filled unopposed. Oabile Thona Tariq Babitseng is set to assume the presidency uncontested, while Alfred Randriamanampisoa will take the vice-president position without opposition. The reserved women’s seat will be occupied by Brenda Kunda of Zambia.
Shimooshili’s participation in the election reflects Namibia’s continued involvement in regional football administration and decision-making structures within Southern Africa.
The official results of the elections are expected to be announced following the conclusion of voting at the AGM in Harare.
