Zambezi Authority arrests Zambian herbalist over undeclared products

Zambezi authorities have cautioned Namibians to remain alert to individuals posing as traditional healers and selling products that claim to cure various illnesses. This warning follows the arrest of a Zambian herbalist who was found in possession of undeclared herbal substances after entering the Zambezi Region on Thursday.
Zambezi police chief inspector Charles Mayumbelo said the suspect was intercepted during routine border checks, where officials discovered several herbal products that had not been declared. The items were confiscated.
Health officials are expected to examine the seized substances to establish their contents and assess whether they meet national health and safety standards. The outcome of this assessment will guide the next steps in the investigation.

Mayumbelo noted with concern that cases involving bogus traditional healers are on the rise, with some people losing money and others suffering serious health problems after consuming untested remedies.
He urged communities to report anyone suspected of illegally selling or distributing unverified medicines, stressing that early reporting can help authorities protect the public from potential harm.
