Father in Mondesa Arrested Following Alleged Assault on Son

Authorities in Swakopmund have taken a 36-year-old man into custody after allegations surfaced that he assaulted his eight-year-old son. The arrest comes after a video showing the incident went viral on social media, sparking public concern.
Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula of the Erongo Police confirmed that the incident took place on Friday, 27 February, around 18:00 at a home on Matias Hamukwaya Street, Mondesa.
A formal case has been opened for contravention of Section 254 of the Child Care and Protection Act (Act 3 of 2015) and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. In the video, the father is seen beating the child multiple times, at one point holding him by the arm and appearing to place his hand around the child’s neck.
The suspect, who is the child’s biological father, was apprehended on Sunday, 1 March 2026, in Mondesa and is scheduled to appear before the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. The eight-year-old is currently under the care of his mother.
