DNA Match Leads to Charges in Murders of Two Young Girls in Okahandja, Police confirmed
A suspect has been formally charged in connection with the rape and murders of five-year-old Ingrid Haylee Maasdorp and seven-year-old Roswind Ndinelao Fabianu in Okahandja, following a DNA match confirmed by investigators.
Namibian Police Inspector General Major General Anne-Marie Nainda announced the development during a press conference on Wednesday, confirming that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday and charged the following day.
According to Nainda, DNA analysis conducted on 13 October 2026 established a positive match between the suspect and semen recovered from the scene of Fabianu’s murder in April 2025.
The suspect faces charges of murder, rape, kidnapping and defeating or obstructing the course of justice in connection with the two cases.
“We are certain of what we are talking about. There is no doubt that this person is linked to these two cases that we are referring to,” Nainda said.
She added that the suspect was expected to appear before the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court either on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning.
The police chief further revealed that the same suspect had been detained over the weekend in connection with the attempted rape of an eight-year-old girl. The suspect appeared in court on Monday, 12 October 2026, in that matter, which was postponed to 18 February 2027.
However, Nainda clarified that investigators have not linked the suspect to the murder of 15-year-old Beyonce !Kharuxas, whose body was also discovered in Okahandja in April 2025.
She said investigations into !Kharuxas’s murder remain ongoing, adding that police would withhold certain details to protect the integrity of the investigations and avoid compromising potential court proceedings.
The latest development marks a significant step in the investigations into the deaths of Maasdorp and Fabianu, two cases that have drawn public attention in Okahandja.
