Man Arrested in Tsumeb After Police Find Suspected Unpolished Diamonds

A man has been arrested near Tsumeb after police allegedly discovered suspected unpolished diamonds in his possession without the required permit.

According to a police report, the incident took place on Saturday, 7 March 2026, at about 11h30 on a farm in the area. The suspect had reportedly rented a vehicle in Windhoek and parked it at a farmhouse where he was staying.

It is alleged that the following day the man woke up and found that the vehicle had been stolen. He then reported the matter to the police.

When officers arrived at the farmhouse to investigate the reported vehicle theft, they conducted a search in the suspect’s room. During the search, police allegedly discovered suspected unpolished diamonds wrapped in socks inside the suspect’s travelling bag.

Police indicated that the man was unable to produce a valid permit or any documentation authorising him to possess the suspected diamonds.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and remains in police custody. He is expected to appear before the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court on 9 March 2026.
