Woman Loses N$13 000 in Alleged Rental Scam in Windhoek

A Windhoek resident reportedly lost N$13 000 after allegedly being deceived by a suspect who promised to secure accommodation but failed to deliver after receiving payment.
According to police information, the incident was reported at the Black Chain Shopping Complex in Windhoek on Saturday, 07 March 2026, at around 10h23.
It is alleged that the suspect intentionally misled the complainant by claiming that a rental property was available and instructed the victim to transfer money in order to secure the accommodation. After the payment was made, the suspect allegedly did not provide the promised rental place.
The complainant consequently lost N$13 000 in the suspected scam.
Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made so far and the money has not yet been recovered. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
