Former Otavi Town Council Officer Arrested for Self-Promotion to Phantom HR Role

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken legal action against a former Otavi Town Council official. He previously served as Human Resource Officer and temporarily acted as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), is accused of unlawfully elevating himself to a fictitious role of Manager: Human Resources.

The arrest took place on 23 March 2026, with the suspect facing charges under Section 43(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act for exploiting his position for personal gain. Following his appearance in the Regional Court in Otjiwarongo, he was granted bail set at N$10,000. The matter is scheduled for continuation on 12 May 2026.

The ACC emphasized its unwavering dedication to upholding accountability and integrity within public institutions. “Corruption undermines public trust and has no place in our society. We will continue to investigate and prosecute those who attempt to abuse their positions of authority,” a spokesperson said.

This case serves as a stark reminder that self-enrichment at the expense of public duty will be met with decisive action.
