Body of Missing Man Discovered Washed Ashore in Swakopmund

Police in Swakopmund are continuing investigations after a man, previously reported missing, was found dead along the town’s coastline.

The discovery was made on Tuesday morning when a member of the public came across the body on the beach, south of the jetty, at around 09:00. Authorities believe the body had washed ashore before it was spotted.

According to information from the police, the deceased had been missing since 31 March. His identity has not yet been confirmed.

An eyewitness reported that the man was last seen near the jetty. He was described as dark in complexion, wearing grey trousers and a matching jacket, and carrying a backpack at the time.

Shortly afterwards, concern was raised when it was alleged that he entered the ocean. The witness claimed to have seen him in the water before he disappeared beneath the surface.

A search of the area led to the recovery of a backpack believed to belong to the deceased. Inside were an Oshikundu bottle, a Chinese-made radio, and scrap materials. No form of identification was found.

Police have appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone who may have a missing male relative matching the description to contact the Swakopmund Police Station or their nearest police facility.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
