A 26-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Kidnapping One-Year-Old Baby Boy

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the abduction of a one-year-old baby boy in Okahao, with the child later found unharmed and reunited with his mother.
Police in the Omusati Region confirmed that the suspect, identified as Tresia Sheetekela, was apprehended on Wednesday at Omapopo Village in the Uvudhiya Constituency following a coordinated search operation that extended into the Oshana Region.
The incident reportedly unfolded on Tuesday afternoon when the baby’s 19-year-old mother, Maria Magdalena Wernesta, encountered the suspect in Okahao. The two allegedly exchanged contact details and walked together before the situation took a troubling turn.
According to police accounts, the mother noticed that one of her baby’s shoes had fallen off and briefly left the child in the care of the suspect while she went back to retrieve it. Upon returning, both the woman and her baby were nowhere to be found.
Efforts to contact the suspect initially proved partially successful, as she answered a call and claimed she was waiting further ahead, before subsequently switching off her phone.
Police acted swiftly, tracing the suspect and recovering the child the following day. The baby was found in good condition, and the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
