A Legal Aid lawyer employed by Namibia’s Ministry of Justice appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday after being arrested over the weekend in connection with an alleged shoplifting incident.

Eva-Maria Nangolo is accused of stealing items worth N$3,920 from a Dis-Chem pharmacy located at Wernhil Park Shopping Centre in Windhoek. The goods in question reportedly include sunscreen products, vitamin C dilutants and anti-ageing cream.

She is facing charges of theft as well as defeating or obstructing the course of justice.

According to court documents, Nangolo allegedly concealed the items in her vehicle. It is further claimed that after her arrest, she failed to hand over her car keys to law enforcement officers, an action prosecutors say hindered police investigations.

The State argues that her conduct following the arrest obstructed the investigation process, which led to the additional charge.

Nangolo remains in custody and is expected to return to court on Friday, when dates for further proceedings are likely to be set.
