Elderly Woman Found Brutally Murdered in Walvis Bay Home, Police Launch Investigation

A murder investigation has been opened in Walvis Bay after an elderly resident was found dead in her home earlier this week.

The incident came to light on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, in the Lagoon area of Walvis Bay, where an 80-year-old woman was found lifeless inside her bedroom under disturbing circumstances.

The victim, identified as Barbara Ruth Geschke, was discovered lying on the floor in a pool of blood at her residence on No. 3 J.H. De Waardt Street. She had suffered multiple open wounds.

According to Erongo Regional Police spokesperson Inspector Hilma Shomongula, a concerned neighbour made the discovery at around 12h00 after deciding to check on the woman’s wellbeing.

Police have since launched an investigation into the suspected murder and are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify and locate the suspect or suspects involved.

Preliminary findings suggest the incident may have taken place between Monday afternoon, 15 June, at about 15h00 and the time the body was found the following day.

The deceased’s next of kin have been informed, while investigations continue.
