President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah hands over the national flag to Team Namibia ahead of the country’s participation in the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has handed over the national flag to Team Namibia as the country prepares to compete at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.The Games will take place from 23 July to 2 August and will be Namibia’s ninth appearance at the international sporting event.

The flag handover ceremony was held at State House and brought together athletes, coaches and officials who will represent Namibia in athletics, para-athletics, boxing, gymnastics, lawn bowls and swimming.

Minister in the Presidency Charles Mubita encouraged the athletes to represent not only Namibia’s sporting ambitions, but also the country’s values and unity.He said the Commonwealth Games provide an opportunity for nations to build friendships and strengthen relationships through sport.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah congratulated Team Namibia for qualifying for the Games and praised the athletes, coaches, administrators and families for their dedication and support.She urged the team to compete with pride, discipline and respect as they carry the Namibian flag on the international stage.

The President also said government remains committed to developing sport in the country, adding that investment in sports infrastructure across all 14 regions is aimed at creating opportunities for young people.

She officially presented the flag to Team Namibia and wished the delegation success ahead of their participation in Glasgow.
