Nkurenkuru Town Council Explains Zondie’s Exclusion from Expo Line-up

The Nkurenkuru Town Council has provided clarification regarding the absence of several popular Kavango West artists from the upcoming Nkurenkuru Expo entertainment line-up.
The Updated World reached out to the Nkurenkuru Town Council to seek clarification on why some well-known Kavango West artists were left out of the line-up.
In response, the council revealed that, among the local artists mentioned, only Zondie submitted a quotation. However, his application was not shortlisted because he did not meet certain eligibility criteria established during the selection process.
“The only quotation that was received was for Zondie, but unfortunately we couldn’t shortlist him due to eligibility criteria that was followed,” the council responded.
According to the council, one of the concerns considered during the evaluation process was Zondie’s previous conduct at some events. The council alleged that there were occasions where the artist was booked to perform but appeared on stage under the influence of alcohol, which they said created a negative image.
The council said such considerations formed part of the criteria used when selecting artists for the expo.
Zondie, alongside other Kavango West artists such as Jussi, 2Bu and Jazz, has been recognised for contributing to the region’s music scene and promoting Kavango West through entertainment. Their absence from the line-up prompted complaints from members of the public on social media.
