Nkurenkuru Expo opens with renewed focus on jobs and investment

Minister of Urban and Rural Development James Sankwasa has called on young entrepreneurs to embrace innovation, technology and entrepreneurship as key drivers of Namibia’s economic transformation.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Fillips Tenga, Chairperson of the Kavango West Regional Council, during the official opening of the Nkurenkuru Expo 2026 on Wednesday, the minister said Namibia’s economic future depends on the creativity, resilience and determination of young people to establish businesses that create jobs and add value to the country’s natural resources.

Held under the theme “Empowering Economic Growth and Celebrating Heritage,” the expo brings together businesses, government institutions, financial institutions and entrepreneurs to promote trade, investment and innovation in the Kavango West Region.

Sankwasa also encouraged the business community to continue investing in towns across the country by supporting local enterprises and working closely with local authorities to develop infrastructure and improve service delivery.

He said partnerships between the public and private sectors are essential to creating sustainable economic growth, improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities for communities.

The minister added that the Nkurenkuru Expo provides an important platform for businesses to build partnerships, showcase their products and explore new investment opportunities while celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage.
