Try Again FC appoints Lionel Afrikaner
Try Again FC has strengthened its technical department ahead of the 2026/2027 Southern Stream First Division season with the appointment of experienced coach Lionel Afrikaner as head coach.
The club, one of the longest-serving teams in the division, has handed Afrikaner a contract that includes an option for renewal as it targets a return to Namibia’s top-flight football.
Afrikaner returns to coaching after making his mark with Young Brazilians FC, whom he guided to Namibia Premiership success after taking charge just eight matches into the campaign. He was also previously associated with Try Again FC and believes the club has the potential to challenge for promotion.
“I am delighted to be back on the bench. Several teams were interested in my services, but Chairperson Suzelle Pakz Cloete’s offer was too good to pass up,” Afrikaner said.
He identified defensive shortcomings as one of the areas that need attention, while revealing that he has already identified players who could strengthen key positions.
Try Again FC chairperson Suzelle Pakz Cloete said the club considered several candidates before settling on Afrikaner, citing his experience and technical knowledge as key factors behind the decision.
“It’s about time Try Again FC elevates itself to the top-tier league. We’ve restructured our technical team to support this goal,” Cloete said.
The club’s revamped technical team consists of Afrikaner as head coach, Armando Vieira as assistant coach, Joslin Dors as fitness and goalkeeper coach, Jeffrey Booise as team manager and Rudolph Witbooi as equipment manager.
The new setup is expected to play a central role in Try Again FC’s push for promotion during the upcoming season.
